Splash into Summer Reading with Manatees

Summer Reading Books

By Stephanie Cohen, Public Relations Specialist

Summer is the perfect time to dive into a book about manatees! We’ve created a Manatee Book List that offers a range of engaging reads for all ages. For young readers, “Mango the Manatee” by Lindsey Clark and “I’m a Manatee” by John Lithgow provide charming, educational stories that introduce manatees through fun stories and illustrations. Young readers can also go on a variety of adventures with Kobee Manatee™ in his books by Robert Scott Thayer.

Elementary and middle school readers can delve into “Manatee Summer” by Evan Griffith, which follows a young boy’s quest to protect these gentle giants, or “The Missing Manatee” by Cynthia DeFelice, a suspenseful tale that combines mystery with manatee conservation. Both books offer captivating plots that weave in important environmental messages.

More advanced readers can explore deeper scientific and conservation-focused books, like “The Florida Manatee: Biology and Conservation” by Roger L. Reep and Robert K. Bonde, which is a book filled with detailed insights into manatee behavior, biology, and the efforts to protect them.

This summer, let these books transport you to somewhere new to learn something new about manatees.  For a full list of recommended books, visit the Manatee Book List on our website at savethemanatee.org/book-list. Look for these books at your local library, or you can support Save the Manatee Club by purchasing books from our online store.
