Make a Will Month: Plan Today, Protect Tomorrow

Mawm

By Tonya Higgins, Director of Development and Operations

As we enter Make a Will Month, we want to highlight the importance of planning for the future. Many charities striving to bring forth good in the world, including Save the Manatee Club, can ensure continuity far into the future thanks to the thoughtful legacy plans of supporters like you.

We understand that planning your will can be a strange and difficult task to think about. However, it’s a meaningful way to ensure your values and compassion live on, and makes handling estates easier for your loved ones. I’ve personally experienced the challenges that ensue when managing the estate of someone with no advanced planning. When presented with the option to partner with FreeWill to make the process easier while giving the option to give back, I wanted to see how our supporters feel about it. So far, 84 people have used the tool to create a plan at no cost and indicate their desire to leave a legacy for manatees. We invite you to visit FreeWill to begin the process, learn more, and tell us what you think.

Though it may not be as much fun or exciting as learning about manatees and their endearing behaviors, including Save the Manatee Club—or another nonprofit of your choosing—in your will can make a profound and lasting impact.

We are immensely grateful to those who have already included manatees and our organization in their estate plans. The legacy of those who have already passed, and those who are planning for the future today, will help protect manatees and their habitats for generations to come. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us secure a brighter future for these gentle giants!
