August 30, 2024, is the official Jimmy Buffett Day in the State of Florida, as declared by the Florida legislature earlier this year. The date celebrates the life and music of Jimmy Buffett, whose free-spirited life made significant contributions to national and state culture.

This year, fans worldwide have united to honor the life and legacy of the beloved musician and philanthropist. Jimmy Buffett’s music has long been synonymous with a laid-back, tropical lifestyle, but his commitment to conservation, especially the protection of manatees, has been equally profound.

Save the Manatee Club (SMC) proudly took part in the celebrations, paying tribute to Buffett not only for his musical influence but also for his role as a co-founder of our organization. In Key West, SMC supporters participated in a second line parade, celebrating his enduring legacy and raising awareness for manatee conservation.

On the west coast, in Sarasota, volunteers were at the Jimmy Buffett Tribute Day at the Bazaar at Apricot and Lime, where they shared Jimmy’s passion for manatees with attendees, raising money and awareness for SMC.

These events served as a fitting tribute to Buffett’s lifelong passion for protecting manatees and their habitat. His advocacy continues to inspire us, and through our presence at the parade and concert, we had the opportunity to engage with fans, share our mission, and carry on the important work he helped start.

As we celebrated Jimmy Buffett Day, we honored both the joy he brought through his music and the difference he made in wildlife conservation. We look forward to continuing his legacy for years to come.
