MAITLAND, FL—Make this Valentine’s Day special for the people you love by adopting them a real living manatee from Save the Manatee Club! All adoptions include a personalized adoption certificate, photo, and individual biography of a real, living manatee that has been studied by research teams in Florida.

There are over 30 unique manatees available for adoption, including Flicker, a female manatee that can be readily identified by the scars on her back that look like a flickering candle. These scars were caused by collisions with boats. She also serves as a reminder to properly discard fishing line and other debris, as she has become entangled twice, each time requiring her to be rescued, disentangled, and released.

Each symbolic manatee adoption starts at $25 and includes a one-year Save the Manatee Club membership. Members receive a quarterly newsletter, The Manatee Zone, with updates on adoptable manatees and additional important manatee information. For a limited time, adoptions at the $35 level or above also include a Save the Manatee Club valentine with a plantable paper heart that will grow a blend of wildflowers.

Funds from the Adopt-A-Manatee program directly support Save the Manatee Club in its mission to protect manatees and their habitat, including emergency rescue, rehabilitation, and release efforts; education and public awareness programs; and other critical work to address the ongoing manatee mortality crisis on Florida’s east coast.

Please order by Sunday, February 5 for delivery by Valentine’s Day. Manatee adoptions also make a great last-minute gift, as personalized adoption certificates can be emailed immediately. To Adopt-A-Manatee, visit adoptamanatee.org or call 1-800-432-JOIN (5646).
