Customize Calendar Photos for a Frame

Calendar Craft Gif

If you have an old or extra manatee calendar, you can repurpose its beautiful images into unique framed artwork. This guide will walk you through the process, including optional steps for enhancing your piece with lettering, stickers, and geometric designs.

As always, we want to express our deepest gratitude to all the photographers who graciously donated their images for our calendars!

Step 1: Select and Prepare Your Calendar Images

  1. Choose an image from the calendar that fits your frame size and theme.
  2. Carefully remove the calendar page from the binding, using scissors or a craft knife if necessary.
  3. If your frame has a mat, make sure the selected image fits within its dimensions.

Step 2: Cut the Image to Fit the Frame

  1. Place the frame’s glass or backing over the image and trace around it with a pencil.
  2. Use scissors or a craft knife to cut along the marked lines.
  3. Test-fit the image in the frame to ensure it fits well; trim further if needed.

Step 3: Add Geometric Shapes, Decorations, and Lines (Optional)

  1. Use a ruler and markers or paint pens to draw clean lines or shapes.
  2. Consider framing parts of the image with simple borders or adding waves to mimic water movement.
  3. Let any paint or ink dry completely before proceeding.

Step 4: Add Lettering (Optional)

  1. Look for interesting text from the calendar, such as the month name, a quote, or any printed words. You can also use an old newspaper or magazine to borrow lettering from there.
  2. Carefully cut out the lettering.
  3. Arrange the cut-out words on the image in a way that complements the design.
  4. Adhere the lettering using glue, tape, or photo corners.

Step 5: Add Stickers (Optional)

  1. Choose stickers that complement the picture.
  2. Arrange them around the image’s edges or in a creative pattern.
  3. Stick them down, ensuring they don’t overpower the main image.

Step 6: Assemble the Frame

  1. Place the decorated image inside the frame.
  2. Secure the backing.
  3. Clean the glass with a microfiber cloth to remove smudges.

Step 7: Display Your Artwork

  1. Hang the framed piece on a wall or place it on a shelf.
  2. Consider making a series using different images from the calendar.

This project is a great way to upcycle old calendars while adding a personal touch to your space. Have fun creating!
