Obama Administration Proposes Changes in 2010
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar recently stated that he will announce
changes to Endangered Species Act (ESA) regulations in 2010. For over 35
years, the ESA has been a safety net for manatees and other wildlife, fish,
and plants on the brink of extinction. We must keep it strong so
that it can continue to protect wildlife and wild places.
Sign a petition supporting a strong Endangered Species
Act.
Oil and mining companies, logging companies, pesticide companies,
developers, and other special interests would like to weaken these
scientific checks and balances, and we have a responsibility to stop them
from weakening the ESA.
We need to show the administration that the American public
supports strong protections for our nation's wildlife and wild
places.
What You Can
Do:
- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has
asked for comments on changes that should be made to the Endangered
Species Act regulations. While there are some improvements and
clarifications that can be suggested to strengthen the ESA, we
must remain vigilant that no changes be enacted to
weaken endangered species programs.
The Endangered Species Coalition (Save the Manatee Club is a member) has
put together a petition to be sent to the Obama Administration supporting
a strong Endangered Species Act and strong scientifically-based
protections for our nation's wildlife, fish, and plants on the brink of
extinction.
Sign the petition and show your support for a strong
Endangered Species Act.
- Please donate now so we can continue our
work to protect manatees and their habitat.
Thank you for taking the time to
help manatees
and other endangered species!
